Tracing Paleo-fluid Evolution and Migration Pathways

Fluids in sedimentary basins transport metals and hydrocarbons that may eventually form economically exploitable mineral deposits and hydrocarbon accumulations. Fluid inclusion studies provide an excellent tool to track the changes in the physical and chemical properties of the migrating fluids and the results can be used to predict where mineral resources may or may not be expected to be found.

Traces of Hydrocarbon Migration in the Mecsek Mts., Hungary

For my MS thesis I studied traces of hydrocarbons as preserved in fluid inclusions in a calcite-filled fracture system of a Jurassic calcareous marl formation. Since completion of my thesis, additional sites with hydrocarbon traces have been identified as a collaboration with my MS thesis advisor, Dr. Félix Schubert. Some of our findings have been published in the papers below.
